CSCC Office to Move to University of North Texas (UNT)

Dear CSCC members,

At the CSCC board meeting on November 17, the ad hoc committee on the CSCC office recommended to the Board that CSCC be housed at the Bill J. Priest Center for Community College Education at the University of North Texas (UNT), effective July 1, 2013 with Beverly Bower assuming the role of Executive Director. The Board unanimously approved this recommendation and UNT and CSCC have finalized an agreement. I would like to thank Pam Eddy, Cliff Harbour, Carrie Kisker, and Eboni Zamani-Gallaher for their service on the ad hoc committee. I am sure I speak for the entire membership in extending our appreciation to UCLA, the Center for the Study of Community Colleges and Art Cohen and Rick Wagoner for their years of shepherding our organization. We will be transitioning the office during the spring semester and will continue to provide updates to the membership.

Below is a note from Bev Bower.

The Bill J. Priest Center for Community College Education and the University of North Texas, College of Education are very pleased to have been selected as the new host organization for the Council for the Study of Community Colleges. From its start in 1890 as a teacher training school, UNT has been a major provider of educational professionals and supporter of educational efforts in North Texas. UNT maintains close ties with North Texas community colleges as evidenced by its being one of the largest transfer-student-receiving universities in the nation, as well as serving as the home of the North Texas Community College Consortium and the Bill J. Priest Center both of which provide professional development and education for the approximately 9,200 practitioners working in approximately 25 two-year colleges on over 50 campuses and centers with the approximately 200,000 community college students in the North Texas Region. The mission and purpose of the Priest Center fall directly in line with the stated aims and purposes of CSCC and we look forward to bringing the power of these two organizations together to advance the community college research agenda. We also look forward to building on the supportive foundation established by the UCLA Center for the Study of Community Colleges as we help CSCC grow and thrive in its new home. Thanks to you all for this opportunity.

Brent Cejda
CSCC President
